To give some of our suceess back to Burton Joyce we have proudly sponsored the Burton Joyce under 8's football team.

The team was formed three years ago by the manager Paul Doherty in response to pleas from his son and friends to play in a team. There was no facility at that time for young boys to play and train so Paul took it upon himself to run a side. The side is now twelve strong and the majority of the boys have been playing rain or shine together as a group since the age of 4/5 years of age. Paul is assisted with the Friday training sessions at the Poplars training ground by Neil Concannon and Ted Towers.

The lads are encouraged to play football with a smile and HAVE FUN !!

During the last few months the team has entered three regional tournaments, winning the fair play trophy at Cotgrave. The boys have enjoyed playing in a competitive manner and the management team are confident more honours will soon be coming the team’s way. This month they begin their first season in the Elizabethan under eights league representing Burton Joyce under 8s and they’re all looking forward to stepping out in a new kit,“This team is about bringing together boys from the surrounding area and giving them an opportunity to be part of a team spirited venture. The lads are learning that by playing fair,
trying hard and pulling together they can achieve success. It’s very rewarding for us all and we’re so proud of what they have already achieved”.
